Tip 231. Herbs for Flu

 

Certain remedies have been found highly beneficial in the t r eatment of influenza. T h e most important of these is the use of long pepper. Half a teaspoon f ul of the p o wder of the long pepper with two teaspoonfuls of ho n ey and half a teaspoon f ul of juice of ginger sho u ld be

taken thrice a day. This will help gr e atly if taken i n initial sta g es of the disease. It is e s pecia l ly useful in a v oiding complicatio n s which follow the onset of the disease, n a mely, the involv e ment

of the larynx and bronchial tube.

 

Another excellent remedy for influenza is the gr e en leaves of basil or t u lsi plant. Abo u t one

gram of these leaves s h ould be boiled along wi t h some ginger n half a li t re of water until about half the water is left. T h is decoc t ion should be t a ken as tea. I t gives immediate relief.

 

Garlic and t urmeric are other effective food me d icines for influenza. Garlic is us e ful a s a

general antiseptic and should be given as much as the pati e nt can bear. Garlic juice may also

be sucked u p the nose. A teaspoon f ul of turmeric powder s h ould be mixed in a cup of warm milk and taken three times in the d a y. It will prevent complications arisi n g from influenza and also activate the liver which becomes sluggish d u ring the att a ck.

 

 

 

Tip 232. Home Remedies for Dandruff

 

Several home remedi e s have been found usef u l in the trea t ment of dandruff. The u s e of fenugreek (m ethi) seeds is one such remedy. T wo tablesp o ons of fenu g reek seeds should be soaked overnight in wa t er. The sof t er seeds s h ould be gro u nd into a fi n e paste in t h e morning. This paste should be a p plied all ov e r the scalp a nd left for h a lf-an hour. T he hair sho u ld then

be washed thoroughly with soap nut (ritha) solution or shik ak ai.

 

The use of a teaspoon of fresh lime juice for the last rinse, w hile washing hair, is eq u ally beneficial. T his not only leaves the hair glowing but also removes sticki n ess and pr ev ents dandruff. Washing the h air twice a week with gr e en gram powder in curd is another u s eful prescription.

 

Dandruff can be remov e d by massaging one's h air or half- a n- hour with curd which has been kept in the o pen for three days, or with a few drops of lime juice mixed wi t h amla juice every night, before going to b e d. Another measure w h ich helps to counteract d andruff is to dilute

cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and dab this on to the hair with cotton w ool in between shampooing. Cider vinegar added to the final ri ns ing water after shampooing also helps to disperse dand r uff.

 

 

 

Tip 233. Home Remedies for Hair Loss

 

Certain home remedies have also been found u seful in case of patchy loss of hair. T he seeds

of lime and black pepp e r seeds, gr o und to get a fine paste, is one of the valuable remedies.

This paste a pplied on t h e patches, h as mildly irri t ant action. T his incre a s e s blood circulation in the affected area and stimulates hair growth. The paste should be applied twice a day for a few

weeks.

 

Another useful remedy f or patchy loss of hair is the paste of liquorice ( m ulethi) made by grinding the pieces in milk with a pinch of saffron. This paste should be a p plied over the bald patches at n ight before g oing to bed.
