Tip 188. Fruits for Treating Constipation

 

Certain fruits are effective against constipation.

 

Bael fruit is r egarded as best of all l a xatives. It cleans and t o nes up the intestines. It s regular use for two or three months throws out even the old accum u lated faecal matter. Though generally used to check diarrhoea, b ael contai n s both laxative and constipative properties. It hardens the stools when they are loose and serves as a lax a tive when the bowels a r e

constipated. It should be preferably used in i t s original form and before dinner. About 60 grams

of the fruit will suf f ice for an adult.

 

Pears are regarded the next best fruit beneficial in the treatment of constipation. Pati e nts suffering fr o m chronic constipation should bett e r adopt an ex clusive diet of this fruit or its juice

for few days, but in ordi n ary cases a medium-sized pear tak e n after dinn e r or with breakfast will have the desired eff e ct. The same is true of g uava which, when eaten with seeds, gives roughage to the diet and helps in the normal ev a c uation of t h e bowels.


Grapes have also proved highly beneficial in overcoming constipation. T h e combination of the properties of the cell u lose, sugar and organic acid in grapes make them a laxative food. Their field of ac t i o n is not limited to cleari n g the bowels only. They also tone u p the stomach and intestin e s a nd relieve the most chronic constipa t ion. One should take at least 350 g r ams of grapes daily to achieve the desired r esults. Wh e n fresh gra p es are not av ailable, raisins

soaked in w ater can be used. Raisi n s should be soaked in a tumbler of drinking wat e r for 24 to

48 hours. T his would swell them to the original size of the g rapes. The r aisins should be eaten early in the morning. The water in which raisins are soaked should be d r unk along with the soaked raisins.

 

 

 

Tip 189. Garlic and Onion in the Bedroom

 

Certain foods are consi d ered highly beneficial in the treatment of impotence. The most important of these is ga r lic. It is a na t ural and ha r mless aphrodisiac. Acc o rding to a Dr.

Robinson, a n eminent sexologist of America, garlic has a pronounced a phrodisiac e ffect. It is a tonic for l o ss of sexual power from any c ause and for sexual debility and impotence resulting

from sexual overindulgence and ne r vous exha u stion.

 

Onion is a n other important aphrodisiac food. It stands seco n d only to garlic. It increases libido and strengt h ens the rep r oductive organs. The white variety of onion, is h o wever, more useful

for this pur p ose.

 

 

 

Tip 190. Garlic for Asthma

 

Another effective reme d y for asthma is garlic.

 

The patient should be given daily garlic cloves boiled in thi rt y gm of milk as a cure f o r early

stage of as t hma. Steaming ginger t e a with minced garlic cloves in it, can also help to keep the problem under control a n d should be taken both in the morning and evening.

 

Turmeric is also regard e d as an eff e ctive reme d y for bronchial asthma. The patient should be given a teaspoonful of t u rmeric powder with a gl a ss of milk t w o or three times daily. It acts best when taken on an empty stomach.

 

During the attack, must a rd oil mixed with little c a mphor should be massaged over the back of

the chest. T his will l oosen up phle g m and ease breathing. T he patient should also i nhale steam from the boiling water with caraway seeds, kno w n as ajwain i n the vernacular. It will d i late the bronchial p a ssage.
