Almond milk made from blanched almonds in a blender is v ery beneficial for ulcers as it bin d s the excess of acid in t h e stomach and suppli e s high quality proteins. R a w goat's milk is also highly beneficial. It actu a lly helps to h eal peptic ul cer.

 

Cabbage is regarded as another us e ful home remedy for p e ptic ulce r s . Cabbage is boiled in water. This water is all o wed to cool and taken t wice daily. The leaves of kalyana murangal tree, which is a variety of drumstick fou n d in South I ndia, have also proved helpful in the healing of

the ulcers. T he leaves of this tree are ground into a paste and taken mixed with yoghurt daily.

 

Raw veget a bles juices, particularly carrot and cabbage juices are bene f icial in the t r eatment of the peptic ulcers. Carrot juice may be taken eit h er alone or in combination with spi n ach or beat and cucumber. The formula proporti o ns in the c a se of the first combinati o n are 300 ml of

carrots and 200 ml of spinach and in case of the second co m bination, 3 0 0 ml of carrots and three ounc e s each of b e ets and cucumber to make half a li t re of juice.

 

 

 

Tip 163. Basic Food Cures: Apples in Alcoholism

 

Apples are considered valuable in t h e treatment of alcoholism as their use removes intoxication and reduces the craving for wine and other intoxicating liq u ors. The raw celery juice is also considered helpful. It h a s a sobering effect and is an antido t e to alcohol.

 

It is advisable that in the beginning of the treatment, the pati e nt is given a suitable s u bstitute to relieve the craving if and when such a craving occurs. The b e st subs t itute drink for alcohol is a glass of fr es h fruit juice, sweetened with honey, if desired. In the alternative, wholesome candy


may be tak e n. The pati e nt should always have e asily available juic e s , c a ndy, or other snacks

to be taken between m e als if he fe el s a craving f or a stimulant.

 

All refined f o ods such a s sugar, whi t e rice, mac a roni produc t s and white flour and meat should

be avoided. The patient should eat several small meals a day in preference to two or three large ones a nd avoid strong condiments such a s pepper, mustard, and chill i . He s h ould not smoke as t h is will o n ly increase his d esire for alcohol.

 

 

Tip 164. Basic Food Cures: When y ou need f i bre, eat beans.

 

Fibre is essential to h u man health. Many are t e mpted to ensure their c o nsumption of fibre by using just o ne source, u s ually whole grains. Un f ortunately, eating too much wheat fi b re alone can cause u nexpected results, such as acid st om ach, and, surprisin g ly, constipa t i o n. Fibre

from whole grains must be supplemented. Beans and peas are as usef u l as whole g rains as sources of fi bre.

 

Legumes have high fibre content. Much of this f i b re is water- soluble, which makes l e gumes likely agents for lowering cholester o l. Soyabeans, be s ides t h is, can also h elp control g lucose levels.

 

 

Tip 165. Beet for Heart Health

 

The beet juice has also proved val u able in arteriosclerosis. It is an excellent solvent for

inorganic c a lcium deposit. Juic e s of carrot and spinach are also benefici a l. These juic e s can be taken indivi d ually or in combination. Formula proportions fo u nd helpful w hen used in

combination are carrot 3 00 ml and spinach 200 ml to prepare 500 ml of juice.
