Tip 152. Fasting to Relieve Leucoderma

In nature c u re, the trea t ment of leucoderma consists o f ad o ption of co n stitution a l measures to cleanse the system of accumulated toxins. This enables the healing po w er within the body to assert i t self, and produce normalcy. To begin wi t h, the patie n t should un d ertake a fast on

juices for a b out a week. In this regi m en, he or s h e should take fruit or vegetable juices, diluted with water on 50: 50 basis every two or three hours from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. The bowels should be cleansed daily with warm water during this period.

After the juice fast, the p atient may a dopt a restricted diet c o nsisting of f r esh fruits, r a w or steamed v e getables a n d whole meal bread or chapattis. C u rd and milk may be ad d ed to this

diet after a f ew days. The patient may thereafter gradually embark upon a well-bala n ced diet of seeds, nuts and grains, vegetables and fruits. T he large pr o portion of t h e diet should consist of raw foods. Seeds and b e ans such a s alfalfa, mung and soyabeans can be sprouted. T his diet may be su p plemented with cold-p r essed vegetable oils, h o ney and ye as t. Juice fas t ing may be

repeated at intervals of two months. The patient should avoid tea, coffe e , alcoholic b everages

and all con d iments and highly flavoured dishes. He or she should also av oid sugar, white flour products, d e natured ce r eals like polished rice a n d pearled b a rley, and tinned or bottl e d foods.

Tip 153. The Fasting Cure for Rh e umatism

In the case of acute rh e umatism, the patient s h ould be put on a short f a st of orange juice and water for three or four days. While f asting, the b owels should be cleansed through a warm

water enema. After the juice fast, th e patient s h ould be placed on a res t ricted diet f o r 14 days.

In this regi m en, orange or grapefruit may be ta k en for breakfast, lunch may consist of a raw salad of any vegetables in season, w ith raisi n s, p runes, figs o r dates; and for dinner, o ne or two steamed vegetables such a s s p inach, cab b age, carrots, turnips, ca u liflower, etc., and a

few nuts or some sweet fruit may be taken. NO bread or potatoes or ot h er starchy food should

be taken; o t herwise the effect of the diet will be l ost. Therea f ter, the pati e nt may gra d ually commence a well bala n ced diet of t hree basic f ood groups, namely (i) seeds, nuts a nd grains

(ii)vegetables and (iii) fr u it.

Tip 154. The Safest, Most Effective, and Best Method of Fasting

The best, s a fest and most effective method of fasting is juice fasting.

Although the old cl a ssic form of fasting was a pure water fast, most of the leading au t horities on fasting t o day agree that juice f a sting is far su p erior to a water fast.

According to Dr. Rangar Berg, the world -famous authority on nutrition, " D uring fasting the

body burns up and exc r etes huge am ounts of accu m ulated wastes. We can help this cleansing process b y drinking alkaline juice i n stead of water while fasting.. Eli m ina t ion of uric a c id and

other inorg a nic aci d s will be acceler a ted. And s u gars in juic e s will streng t hen the he a rt.. juice fasting is, t h erefore, the best form of fasting ."

Vitamins, minerals, enz y mes and trace elements in fresh, r a w vegetable and fruit juices are extreme l y b eneficial in n ormalising a ll the body processes. T hey supply essential el e ments for

the body's own healing activity and cell regene r ation and t h us speeding the recovery. All juices should be p r epared from fresh fruit immediate l y before drinking. Canned or frozen juices

should not b e used.

A precauti o nary measure which must be observed in all cas e s of fasting is the complete emptying of the bowels at the begi n ning of the f ast by enema. This is d o ne so that t h e patient

is not bothe r ed by gas or decomposing matter formed from t he excrem e nts remaining in the body. Enemas should b e administered at least ev ery alterna t e day during the fasting period. The patient should get a s much fresh air as possible and s h ould drink plain lukewa r m water
